Awards & recognition
Bruce’s early career was in the Merchant Navy and then as an officer in the RAF, with his particular expertise being as a helicopter pilot. After he left the RAF, Bruce and his family moved to Cornwall in the late 1980’s, meeting Roger and Linda Carson a few years later. Bruce, Linda and Roger became the founding directors of Rosemullion Homes in March 1994 with Bruce’s particular responsibility being land acquisition.
From modest beginnings, the company built a reputation for creating new homes of real worth and distinction in Cornwall and these efforts were nationally recognized when in November 2008, the company was awarded the most coveted prize in the industry ‘Housebuilder of the Year’ at the What House? Awards in London. Although his illness was well advanced by this time, Bruce bravely led a small team from Rosemullion to the Awards ceremony and collected the Housebuilder of the Year Award and four other awards.
Rosemullion’s Managing Director, Roger Carson said “Bruce was a big man in stature and in character. As well as being a very close personal friend, he was such an integral part of Rosemullion Homes’ success. Tributes have been pouring in, remarking on his professionalism, integrity, warmth and sense of humour. He touched so many people’s lives for the good, as well as being an extremely effective Land Director. We shall all miss him dreadfully”.
Bruce was one of the three co-founders of Rosemullion Homes, but sadly died at his home in Truro in February 2009 after fighting a brave battle against cancer, always sustained by his strong Christian faith. This enabled him to face death calmly and – as he himself put it – “without fear or anger”.
