The charming village of St Just-in-Roseland enjoys one of the most idyllic locations in Cornwall and possibly in the whole of the West Country. Most of the village houses are clustered to the west of the road between Tregony and St Mawes, the latter being only 2¾ miles to the south. To the west the land falls away steeply to the stunning panorama of the Fal Estuary with Mylor and Falmouth in the distance; the coastline may be explored by National Trust footpaths with wonderful water views. Immediately below the site of The Lookout is the beautiful church of St Just-in-Roseland - probably one of Britain's most photographed churches and arguably enjoying the country's loveliest setting. It is built right beside the water on a tidal creek and surrounded by vegetation which is virtually tropical.
The larger nearby settlement of St Mawes offers a very good range of local facilities including the renowned Hotel Tresanton and other excellent restaurants, hotels, pubs and shops. From St Mawes quay there are regular passenger ferry services to Falmouth and also across to Place, this latter trip giving access to the southern tip of the Roseland peninsula.
The whole area is superb sailing and walking country with a range of delightful beaches - many of them accessible only on foot or by boat. Despite these rural and marine attractions, St Just is only 17 miles by road to Truro, a journey that maybe shortened by the efficient King Harry ferry connecting the peninsula to Trelissick and thence Truro to the north or Falmouth to the south. Both have excellent shopping facilities with a wide range of independent shops and many national retailers represented.
Schooling and recreational facilities in and around both of these centres and on the Roseland peninsula itself are plentiful. Close at hand are the wonderful gardens of Trelissick, Trewithen and Caerhays as well as the Lost Gardens of Heligan near Mevagissey. Other major attractions include the National Maritime Museum Cornwall at Falmouth, the world famous Eden project near St Austell and the Tate Gallery at St Ives.
