Truro development scoops two national garden awards for Cornish housebuilder

One of Cornwall’s premier house builders has been honoured at the recent New Homes Garden Awards 2008.

Truro development scoops two national garden awards for Cornish housebuilder Belvedere

The national competition, regarded as the industry’s version of the Golden Globes, saw Rosemullion Homes scoop silver in two categories - Best Courtyard Garden and Best Communal Garden. The awards were presented to the company for its Belvedere development in Truro.

Roger Carson, Rosemullion’s managing director said: “We’re all delighted to have received two awards from such a prestigious competition, we feel very honoured.”

The competition, which is now in its fifth year, aims to raise the quality and standard of outdoor space around new homes by awarding people for their excellence, creativity, environmental responsibility and total customer care.

The awards are highly sought after amongst house builders, garden designers, landscapers and landscape architects.

“The Best Communal Garden award was given in recognition of the oval open space at Belvedere, together with the overall quality of the hard and soft landscaping in the public realm,” said Roger.

“Working with Cirencester-based landscape architects Whitton Associates on the scheme, the judges were impressed with the quality of the hard landscape, much of it in local stone and slate, which is well balanced by the shrubs and trees planted in the open spaces.

“They also commented on our traditionally built Cornish hedge which defines gardens to the east and south of the scheme, whilst over 1,000 trees that have been planted to form a new soft edge to the eastern boundary of Truro.”

The Best Courtyard Garden, an award presented for gardens under 36 square metres, was given for 9 Belvedere, which is owned by graphic designer Timothy Guy and his wife, Jan.

“Working with a creative mind like Tim’s was great,” said Roger.

“Hillside Landscapes created a paved area of strong interest and quality which was augmented by a comprehensive and carefully planned planting scheme by Tim and Jan.

“The judges agreed that this garden succeeded because of the sheer enjoyment it gives to its proud new owners.”

Belvedere also gained national recognition when HRH Prince Charles paid a visit to the site during its construction in 2006 and more recently, when the development was featured in the Exhibition of Excellence at the Housing Design Awards in London in July this year.

Just one home remains available for sale at Belvedere – a large four bedroom detached family home with attractive stone and slate elevations. It is ready for occupation and is offered for sale at £399,950. Appointments to view may be arranged through sole selling agents Lillicrap Chilcott 01872 273473.
