One of Cornwall’s most prestigious house builders recently made an appearance at the Houses of Commons when it was invited to collect a national award.

Rosemullion Homes was announced as one of the major winners in the National Green Apple Environmental Best Practice and Sustainable Development Awards.

The ceremony at Westminster saw the Cornish house builder as a guest of honour as it was officially presented with its gold award within the Property Management category for its sustainability initiatives.

The Truro-based business also had the honour of beating national companies Savills and Land Securities Trillium in the category.

Rory Carson, who collected the award on behalf of Rosemullion Homes, said: “To be declared as a gold winner of such a sought after award is a massive achievement, we feel very honoured and proud.”

In keeping with the green theme, the Tree Appeal planted a broad-leaved tree on behalf of Rosemullion Homes for attending.

As well as the award the house builder has also been invited to join the National Green Heroes, an elite group of environmental achievers who use their experience to help thousands of others – and the environment around the world.

The driving force behind the company’s attempts to reduced its carbon footprint has been the staff-led Green Team.

Team member Stephanie Gardner, said: “We take environmental considerations very seriously not only when planning and designing all our developments but when we are on site and in the office.

“We’re currently developing Trinity Watch in St Ives and we have recycled a massive 700 tons of stone, brick and block, which has saved the company 173 lorry journeys to and from the site.

“And to ensure the houses will be energy efficient, all will be fitted with gas-fired under floor heating, wood-burning stoves and additional insulation in floors, walls and ceilings.”

This is one in a long series of green accolades for Rosemullion Homes which was a runner up in the C+ Carbon Positive awards in May and also won a commendation for Best Ecological Development at the Your New Homes Awards in March.
