Doubletrees pupils learn about house Building on visit to site at St Just

Pupils from a St Austell school donned hard hats and high visibility jackets on a visit to a housing development in St Just–in–Roseland on Thursday (6 March).

As part of a house building project six children from Doubletrees School enjoyed a trip to ‘The Lookout’, Truro-based housebuilder, Rosemullion Homes site in the village.

Currently under development, the pupils gained hands on experience of how homes are built.

“As part of the pupils house building project we wanted them to get some on site experience,” said Doubletrees’ teacher, Sally Whitten.

“They were really excited about visiting the site and it was great that they were able to see a property that was virtually finished, as well as one still under construction where they were able to see the dry lining process.”

The pupils, all aged seven, were guided through the tour by Rosemullion’s construction director, Ray Trebilcock, contracts manager, Paul Riley, and the Lookout’s site manager, Patrick Stanley.

“It was really pleasing that the children got so much out of the visit,” said Ray.

“What’s good about the Lookout from their point of view is that the properties are in various stages of completion, so they were able to gain a much better picture.”

At the end of the visit, the children received goodie bags from the Rosemullion team before they left the site for a picnic at the nearby St Just-in-Roseland church.
