£550,000 sea defence takes shape in Marazion
Work has begun on a new £550,000 sea defence in Marazion which will replace the crumbling 60 year-old wall.

Carried out by specialist contractors for Truro based housebuilder, Rosemullion Homes, the construction will protect the site of the Old Sunday School and adjacent cliff.
Once the sea defences are in place, work will start on a total of seven homes, two of which will be affordable, on land formerly owned by St Aubyn Estates.
The new houses, built on the site of the former Sunday School which closed in 1983, are expected to be complete by the end of 2008.
“We’re very excited about this project,” said Rosemullion’s managing director, Roger Carson.
“As a company we’re committed to being sustainable and reducing our impact on the environment.
“Building such a large sea defence will not only secure the site itself but will also increase safety for beach users and improve the appearance of this section of coast.
“We are also keen to help rejuvenate the area, especially after the Sunday School closed and fell into disrepair.
“And we believe the properties will be in great demand as they should have spectacular views of St Michael’s Mount, from their living rooms or gardens.”
The original wall, which is believed to date back to April 1939, has been in need of repair for some time.
“When we first became aware of the site, we knew that some work would be needed to either restore or build a new sea wall in order to stabilise the cliff and safeguard the residents of our new homes,” added Mr Carson.
“And we worked in partnership with Marazion Town Council, Penwith District Council and St Aubyn Estates to ensure a successful outcome for this project.”
The work has also been given approval by local residents as Councillor Sid Thomas, town councillor for Marazion and Penwith District Councillor, said: "The Old Sunday School site in Marazion has lain abandoned and derelict for many years and the sea defences have been seriously eroded.
“I am pleased that a company with the reputation of Rosemullion Homes is prepared to restore and extend the sea wall as well as transforming the site into a very attractive development, that includes homes for local people."
